Your situation
You said: the client agrees, and nothing is done with it.
You said: the client chooses the cheaper or easier route.
You said: the client asks for another analysis, and another.
You said: you have tried all sorts, and nothing has changed.
And your client pays for your advice. Then above all they want to be sure they can take it back to their own organisation.
And you advise internally. Then your advice weighs against the habits of colleagues you meet every day.
And you advise a board. There the risk of a wrong decision weighs heavily.
Being right is not yet being followed.
Your client thinks your advice is good. Carrying it out then asks for something else: freeing up time, bringing colleagues along, stopping something that is running. As long as doing nothing is the easiest route, your report stays on the shelf.
Tomorrow, ask your client what first step they can take this week, and what stands in the way. Make that step so small that they take it at once.
The easy route beats the best advice.
Your advice asks more of the client than the alternative: more money, more effort or more risk. They feel that difference now, and the return only later.
Tomorrow, look at what your advice costs the client in the first month. Remove one barrier, or cut the advice into a first step that asks little.
Another analysis is delay with a tidy name.
Whoever keeps asking for evidence rarely doubts your figures. They dread the decision and what comes after it. More analysis buys them time and leaves that doubt in place.
Tomorrow, ask what would have to happen for them to decide now. The answer is rarely about the analysis.
You kept pushing harder. What holds people back is still there.
Explanation, arguments and pressure all work on the same side: they push. The doubts and comforts that keep people with the old way stay where they are. As long as they do, pushing harder mostly produces more counter-pressure.
Tomorrow, plan no new action. First map what is holding people back. Then you know what to remove.
